The SA Open Blitz was played on Tuesday, 7 July and is part of the SA Chess Festival taking place in Cape Town. These players who took part in the Blitz event were doing this in between the rounds of the main tournament. That takes a special kind of love for the game of chess because they would be back for long game about 2 hours after the end of the blitz tournament.
The time control for the blitz was 3/3 + 2seconds increment per move. The tournament was held at Cape Sun in Strand Street. This is also the venue of the main tournament.
