After 4 weeks of battling for the top position, the Olympiad Gold Medalist, International Master (IM) Odion Aikhoje (@Odirovski) from Nigeria came first for the second time running after edging his closes rival and compatriots IM Dapo Adu(@Dapsay) with 4 points.

It should be noted that cumulative points earned over the month is adopted in arriving at the winners.

To achieve this feat, he appeared among top 10 for 4 weeks accruing crucial points a departure away from his last month’s strategy where the International Master came first in 2/5 of the entire Grand Prix Event.

This is no doubt a sterling performance to retain the crown despite the participation of Africa’s Finest Blitz Players.

In second Position is another Nigerian International Master , IM Dapo Adu with a 136 Cumulative points.

The Nigerian Chess veteran was coasting home to victory but for the 4 extra ‘golden’ points collected by @ Odirovski to edge him.

The IM put in a hard fight for this as he won two (2) out of the four events in the month.

He was also very consistent as he made top ten in the 4 times he participated.

The third Position is occupied by the fast rising Angolan Chess Sensation, IM David Silva.

The Angolan was a favourite for the top position but his missing out in one of the events due to his international Chess Engagements at Zambian Chess Open 2018 cost him some points but his superb performance the three(3) times he appeared made him keep his position at number 3 to deny another Nigerian IM Femi Balogun (@Stuffings) from completing a top 3 Nigeria Finish.

The Angolan finished with 116 Points.

We believe his win here will spur him to gun for first position next edition.

The event keeps getting stronger every week as more top African blitz players are embracing the flagship event and joining in participation.

The last edition for the week of August 2018 was the best of it all.

The best Chess Player from Africa and FIDE Top 100 Grand Master(GM) Bassem Amin graced the occasion and ended up with an outstanding performance in a very tough field.

Trust the African chess players, they made it very tough for him and he suffered two loses in the night.

Two of his games can be found below.

In the First one, he lost to IM Odion Aikhoje’s London system. A very explosive game.

His second Game shows the true reason why he was able to break the 2700 FIDE Rating Marks.

It is a game against the Angolan IM David Silva.

IM Femi Balogun(@Stuffings) had a brilliant performance with a 2534 Performance to come second.

The Olympiad bound International Master known for his ‘signature’ fianchettoed Bishop themed defenses perfectly deployed the tenacity he is known for in the game below against IM David Silva(@Elmaestrods) and deservedly got a win .

This is one of his many wins for the night.

In third Position for the night is the Only Untitled player in Top 10, Mr Vasco Viageiro from Mozambique.

He posted a superlative performance and was the only other player to have won GM Bassem Amin on the Night.

GM Bassem Amin berserked on him in a Sicilian Defense and in a bout of inaccuracies from the GM as a result of time pressure, made the young Mozambican to get the better use of time and got the maximum points as the GM’S timed out.
