The excitement that greeted every Sunday Nights in Africa
amongst Chess Enthusiast across Africa has not waned for once.
Sunday Nights are permanently marked on the Calendars of Chess
Players in Africa.
Different players with differences in purpose.
Some, their joy is to participate while for others, watching the
best players across Africa slug it out is what they stay the night out to
To say both purposes are met is to say the obvious.
But Chess players had more as the great performances by the
Elites has not left the lips of Players a days after. @IM Odirovski(Nigeria) gave a sterling performance in the 4 week event. He has so far registered valuable points week after week to come top amongst the Elite. The Alekhine defence proponent lit up the ‘spirit’ of the Late Alekhine as the defence brought him much glory. He crowned his performance with a top place on the final week. This gave him Thirty Seven(37) Grand Prix Points ahead of his closest rival. For the umpteenth time, @Odirovski is the Crown Elite Champion once again. He had 160 Points from 4 events.
In second place is another Nigerian, @FM Dabee. The semi-retired chess player could not retain his crown secured from September Grand
Prix. An exponent of the Trompowsky attack, he kept up the challenge till the last day of event to ensure @Odirovski did not have it easy as the Elite King. @Dabee amassed 123 Points to secure the second place.
In third place is @FM Harold Wanyama, the self styled ‘King from the East’. He rallied round some disappointing results in previous editions to thankfully book a place in top 3. The IT Guru reincarnated his super performance that recently saw him climbing to spot
Number two in Uganda Chess even without participating at the just concluded
Olympiad or any major International events.
Number 100 is the lucky number as he had his country man @Attrition closing in on him with 98 Points. To complete the top 10, @Handy-Andy (Zimbabwe) made a strong showing to clinch 5th
position. @Handy-Andy’s chess strength has been on the rise recently.
@waign is another new comer in the top 10.
Another Zimbabwean also made top 10. @Castrong
played strong to justify his name and place amongst the African Elites.
It seems the Zimbabweans are doing something right on their Chess as they were also the
surprise top Performer amongst the Africa Teams at the recently conluded chess
