Zimbabwe’s very first online chess tournament and there’s prize money – 25 January 2018

Africa Chess Net is delighted to announce Zimbabwe’s very first online chess tournament with a prize fund of US$200.

Zimbabwe has several chess players playing the game in the country and in the diaspora but this will be the first time the history of the country that it has run its online chess tournament. The tournament will be held on Thursday from 1800 hrs to 1900 hrs Central African Time (CAT). The tournament, which will be played on the Lichess platform will have a time control of 1+1 (1 minute + 1 second) will be played in the  on Lichess.

The prize fund for the tournament will be a modest US$200 with entry fee at US$5.

The country has many chess players and we hope that online chess tournaments will provide another great way to enjoy the game.

Many thanks to Zimbabwean chess promoter and organiser Siza Masuku who has moved with great speed and has very hard to bring this event closer to reality. Commenting about online chess Siza had this to say, “Online chess is the way to go ,it removes huge barriers and obstacles ,reduces costs. It can be played anywhere, it’s just your data bundles. We are waiting for the launch in Zimbabwe. ”
